Views over Al Ain

Al Nagfa is a very run down and for the most part abandoned restaurant perched on a small hill on the edge of Sanaiya. It is a shame that they don't renovate the place because it really is the best spot to get a view over Al Ain. The combination of low buildings, sand, trees, dry wadi beds, and mosques blend with the date palm farms spread throughout the place.

Well, we finally made it back up the hill with the camera the other day (I think the pace of life here is getting the better of me) and the view really does give you a little idea of the scope of Al Ain... spread out and not a high rise in sight!

By the way... the housing complex in the foreground is the other one many from HCT live in. It is one of the few big ones around town. Our villas are bigger and in a far nicer location, but this one is nicer looking (although there are problems with maintenance apparently).

Welcome to you both!

Yes Al Nagfa is a bit run down. It comes alive after dusk, with Shisha and coffee (sitting around the cheap plastic tables) and there are sometimes wedding receptions in the rooms you see above the 80's style games arcade. Definitely in need of a spruce.

Thank you for your welcome.

I just hope they don't end up building the planned hotel complex on the hill (which no doubt will be very expensive) and decide something smaller for all residents to enjoy

Welcome M & K.

Al Ain is definitely undergoing major development in future. There are couple of major projects currently on-going. I'm sure it's going to be a different Al Ain in years to come (including rising in cost of living as well).

Cheers.

Question about your employer has been answered-I hope to be heading out that way next September.
