Hello,

My name is Ilham from Canada. I wanted to ask you a few questions concerning the UAE in general. I specifically wanted to know if there were opportunites to teach only women or children. I am currently doing my TEFL and would like to prepare myself. Thanks. MY email address is my_concerns@hotmail.com

So how have your perceptions changed since first arriving?

@Ilham: You should check out www.eslcafe.com for information on teaching in the UAE. I will say that teaching in the UAE is for the well-papered seasoned veterans. If you are doing a certificate in TEFL (120 hours) now, and do not have a teaching qualification for K-12 and/or a masters in TESOL/applied linguistics/education/etc. then the UAE is really not the place for you.

Very delayed response... I agree; look at ESL Cafe as I am not an English teacher (nor would I wish to be)...

So have my perceptions changed? Not really. Still find Al Ain rather peaceful and relaxing, and still think HCT gets a far worse rap than it deserves (normally by people who have been in the system too long to realise that the "system" exists everywhere; or just form people who love to compare everything to "back home").
