Someone Elses Shoes

Work sometimes reminds me of a pair of second hand shoes. You know they have been worn before so you know that the inside of the shoes are going to be shaped to someone else’s foot. You wear them for a while and slowly the inside starts moulding to your own foot, depending on how long they were worn before you got them. The longer they were worn by another, the longer they will normally take to mould to your own foot. You might even work out that they are more comfortable if you change the left shoe for the right foot and the right shoe for left. But even when you work out what is comfortable for you there will always be a voice reminding you "...that isn't the way they were worn before". Realistically as long as the shoes end up together in the same cupboard at the end of the day, it makes little difference how they were worn before. This doesn't mean everyone else should swap their shoes, but they could at least try just in case they have become too comfortable on the wrong feet.
